This project started when I decided to see how hard it would be to uncover  ancestors who I knew existed in an area where records may not be in existance  anymore. As it turns out, the paternal and maternal sides of my family seem to  trace their origins back to England and Scotland via some of West Virginia's  most rural areas. It has been an adventure "meeting" those who came before.  Some of the names I encountered along the way I remember hearing in family  conversations and at the rare reunions. The last Poling reunion I recall was in  Frostburg Maryland in the early 60's. The last Nichols reunion I remember was  at our house in Moundsville, WV in the later 60's. I would be very interested  in 
 attending another reunion of the Nichols or the Poling families. I would like  to see a Poling family get-together on or near Pifer Mountain. The research is  far from over, and I would like to trace the Nichols family back at least as  far as I have taken the Polings(1640).
